When people ask me about how much the divorce is going to cost, my response is always it will cost you extra, the more you fight. For example, if it’s a custody battle, you’re going to pay more than if it’s not a custody battle.
The process is that there’s an initial retainer taken up front. Here we have a full-staffed firm where the associates and paralegals take care a lot of the work in your file. That way my time, will be utilized for court, for settlement conferences, for interactions with the judge, etc. Really the cost is dependent on what the facts are, and how much is there that you’re going to have to fight about.
An important aspect of the fight is knowing what the funds we are fighting for. Often times people may say I want this, I want that, I want to fight for this, I want to fight for that, and they have no money to fight for it, which is the worst case scenario. You have to assess how much money you have and funding that you have to support the battle that you want. Sometimes what you want you don’t get.
