Mr. Kienz’s practice is focused in Real Estate law and specifically zoning, planning and land use development and redevelopment, along with environmental and municipal law. With over 35 years of complex litigation experience in the land use, zoning and redevelopment areas, Mr. Kienz has tried cases before Judges in the State and Federal Courts. He holds an AV rating in Martindale Hubbell and has been recognized by New York Magazine as one of the “New York Areas Best Lawyers” as well as by New Jersey Monthly Magazine in the area of zoning and planning along with being designated as a “Super Lawyer”. He was named by US News and World Report as a “Best Lawyer” in the field of Land Use and Zoning Law. Mr. Kienz regularly represents public entities, developers and citizens in all legal and litigation matters concentrating primarily in redevelopment and land use applications for industrial, commercial and residential developments. He has appeared before over 150 different agencies. Mr. Kienz is admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court. He serves as a condemnation commissioner, as Associate Counsel to the New Jersey Planning Officials and is Counsel to the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers. He has also been qualified as an expert in Land Use before the New Jersey Courts. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University, and regularly teaches for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers, and the NJ Society of Professional Land Surveyors courses in government, ethics and land use and is frequently requested to speak at conferences and seminars. He has edited and written numerous articles and, “A Guide to Planning and Zoning Boards of Adjustment” (1990, 2000, revised 2013). He also is the editor of the “Municipal Land Use Law” published by the New Jersey Planning Officials, and is a former associate editor on the “Local Government Law Review.” He is the past Chair of both the Land Use Section and Local Government Law Section of the New Jersey Bar Association and a past President of the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys.
