Denis G. Murphy, Member of the Firm, concentrates his practice in the representation of municipalities and other public entities. Denis also has a major focus on election law and campaign finance. He serves as a general counsel as well as special counsel to public entities wherein he regularly provides legal advice, conducts training seminars as well as defends the public entities in all aspects of litigation.

General Counsel – Specific Knowledge

Denis has focused his practice on the representation of public entities for the entire period of his admission (excepting his judicial clerkship). Denis has extensive experience in the defense of civil rights claims of all kinds, Title 59 defense, Open Public Records Act (OPRA) issues, Open Public Meeting Act (OPMA) issues, election and campaign finance matters, planning and zoning matters, and specialized litigation going to the proper exercise of governmental authority. He has successfully litigated these types of matters in both the state and federal courts of New Jersey, as well as before the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law.
Denis currently serves as General Counsel and Special Counsel to both municipalities large and small, urban and suburban.

He has also lectured on such topics as Local Government Ethics, Pay to Play and Campaign Finance and Election Law.

As legal counsel to different public entities, he provides advice and counsel on a daily basis designed to avoid legal problems while safeguarding the client’s legal rights. In addition, Denis has also assisted numerous candidates for public office, as well as political committees and municipal clerks with election law and campaign finance issues.
